Katarzyna Walentynowicz was awarded the Grand Jury Prize for her book Prawy i lewy ("Right and Left") in The BIBF Ananas International Illustration Exhibition competition.
In the fifth edition of the competition, works by seven Polish illustrators were included in the final: Joanna Bartosik, Iwona Chmielewska, Agata Dudek, Małgorzata Nowak, Gosia Herby, Urszula Palusińska, and the awardee Katarzyna Walentynowicz. 1,170 works from 20 countries were submitted to the competition. Out of them, 60 series of illustrations were selected.
Last year, the Grand Jury Prize was awarded to Dominika Czerniak-Chojnacka, and the works of five Polish artists, which were exhibited during the International Book Fair in Beijing on a separate 400-metre area, qualified for the final. This year, due to the cancellation of the fair, the exhibition could not take place.
The main award in the competition (Ananas Grand Prix) is an invitation (fully paid by the organisers) to the Beijing fair in 2021 or alternatively 10 000 RMB. There are also three Grand Jury prizes - one of which was awarded to Walentynowicz - worth 5000 RMB and five New Talent prizes worth 2000 RMB.
