“Catalogue of Incunabula in the National Library of Poland” recognised with two awards
The two-volume Catalogue of Incunabula in the National Library of Poland, published in English, received an award in the international A' Design Award & Competition and an honourable mention in the Polish Graphic Design Awards.
The National Library's publication was recognised in the prestigious international A' Design Award & Competition in April 2021. The catalogue won the Silver Award in Print in the Published Media Design category. The designer of the graphics was Aleksandra Toborowicz.
On Saturday, 26 June, the Polish Graphic Design Awards were announced, where the catalogue received an honourable mention in the Publishing category.
The catalogue was compiled by Michał Spandowski in collaboration with Sławomir Szyller. The descriptions of the bindings were made by Maria Brynda. Thanks to a collaboration with the Staatsbibliothek (State Library) in Berlin, with which the National Library signed an agreement in 2011, the catalogue was reviewed by Dr Falk Eisermann, head of the Gesamtkatalog der Wiegendrucke (Union Catalogue of Incunabula), the most important body involved in the global bibliography of fifteenth-century prints. Paul Schweitzer-Martin, expert in incunabula at the University of Heidelberg, also participated in the preparation of the English version. Publishing the catalogue of incunabula in English brings it into line with the international nature of research in this field and widens its audience.
You can find more details about the catalogue on the Polish and English websites of the National Library.
