Polish literature

Witold Szabłowski

(born 1980) - journalist, one of the most respected Polish reporters.

Author of the books Zabójca z miasta moreli. Reportaże z Turcji (“The Assassin from Apricot City: Reportage from Turkey”, 2010), Tańczące niedźwiedzie. Reportaże z transformacji (”Dancing Bears: True Stories of People Nostalgic for Life Under Tyranny”, 2014), and Sprawiedliwi zdrajcy. Sąsiedzi z Wołynia (”Righteous Traitors: Neighbours from Volhynia”, 2016), which have gained recognition in Poland and worldwide. A winner of the European Parliament Journalism Prize, the Anna Lindh Award, and the Ryszard Kapuściński Award of the Polish Press Agency.

He was nominated for the Nike Literary Award for his book The Assassin from Apricot City. In 2008, he received an honourable mention in the Amnesty International competition for the best human rights journalism for his article To z miłości, siostro ("It’s out of Love, Sister"). The writer also signed a contract with one of the most prestigious publishing houses in the world - Penguin Random House. Dancing Bears translated by Antonia Lloyd-Jones has been published by this publishing house. Recently, his book Jak nakarmić dyktatora ("How to Feed a Dictator") has also appeared on the English-speaking market.
