Polish literature

Marta Guśniowska

(born in 1979) fairy tale writer and playwright, philosopher by profession (Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań). Since 2007, she has worked as a dramatist in Białystok Puppet Theatre. Marta Guśniowska is one of the most often staged playwrights in Poland. She is also the author of several dozen plays presented in Poland and abroad.

She made her debut with the script of Baśń o Rycerzu bez Konia (A Tale about a Knight without a Horse) on the stage of The Animation Theatre in Poznań (2005). It is also in this theatre that she made her directorial debut with A niech to Gęś kopnie! [May the Goose kick it!] (2014). Multiple winner of numerous competitions, including ‘The Competition for the Exhibition of Polish Contemporary Art’ (Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute in Warsaw and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage), ‘The Competition for Children’s and Teenagers’ Art’ (Children's Art Center in Poznań), ‘Teatroteka Playwright Competition’ (ZAiKS and The Documentary and Feature Film Studios in Warsaw), the Contact Zone Competition (Contemporary Theatre in Wrocław), a competition for a radio play (Polish National Radio Programme II), a competition for the Treatment of Animated Film (Polish Film Institute) and many, many others. Last year's prose debut (A niech to Gęś kopnie!) brought another recognition award, this time in the competition ‘The Book of the Year 2017’ organised by the Polish Section of IBBY. Marta Guśniowska was also awarded the Bronze Gloria Artis Medal (the Medal for Merit to Culture).
