(1911-1971) poet, translator, author of books for children, teenagers, and adults; modern classic of Polish literature for children.

He studied at the Faculty of Maths and Physics at the University of Lviv as well as at the University of Warsaw, where he majored in Polish Philology. He was the initiator of the Polish group of poets ‘Wołyń’ (‘Volhynia’). He made his debut with the collection Akwarela: poezje w 1993. (Aquarelle: poetry in 1993). His first poem for children was published in a magazine ‘Słonko’ in 1936. Since then, he regularly contributed to the children’s magazines ‘Poranek’, ‘Promyczek’, and ‘Mały Promyczek’, for which he also translated pieces of writing from the Russian language. He worked in publishing houses ‘Czytelnik’ and ‘Nasza Księgarnia’, and he was an editor of poetic radio shows for the Polish National Radio. He was the editor in chief of the kid’s monthly ‘Miś’.

He published more than 90 books for children, teenagers, and adults, which were written in verse or prose, not to mention his publications in the press, radio, and television. Among his repeatedly reprinted books, we cannot fail to mention the following: Jak Wojtek został strażakiem (How Wojtek became a firefighter), Gdzie mieszka bajeczka (Where the fairy tale lives), Płynie Wisła, płynie… (Vistula flows and flows…), as well as the most famous and most-loved series about the adventures of Miś Uszatek (Teddy Floppy Ear).

He was awarded numerous prizes. Moreover, in 1957, he was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit for his works for children.
