It is not without reason that children's books are said to be "Polish export goods"; for many years, our works for the youngest have enjoyed great interest and recognition abroad. They win the most important industry awards, are presented at prestigious exhibitions, and thanks to translations and foreign editions, they reach little readers in many corners of the world.
The Polish Books for Children and Young Adults catalogue prepared in 2020 by the Book Institute was created for foreign publishers interested in Polish children's books in order to acquaint them with the most interesting new publications. The catalogue presents 32 titles by the most eminent Polish writers and poets as well as famous and respected illustrators, many of whom have been honoured with the most important literary awards and honourable mentions. In the selection of books, divided into five age categories, we were helped by a group of experts - literary scholars, educators, culture promoters, people who have been co-creating the Polish children's book market for years and who have also developed their own recommendations. The graphic layout of the catalogue has been designed by Dominika Czerniak-Chojnacka - a young yet already appreciated artist in the world of children's illustration, a winner of, among other things, the BolognaRagazzi Award.
The Polish version of the catalogue is addressed primarily to parents, grandparents, librarians, and all those looking for wise, valuable, and beautifully published books for children. The publication will be promoted as part of the pro-reading social campaign of the Book Institute "Small Book - Great Man", on the website, our social media channels, and during events addressed to children and their careers.
We hope that the publication we are presenting to you will contribute to the growth of interest in Polish children's books as well as numerous translations and editions abroad, and that it will also inspire Polish children’s literature lovers to discover and develop their passion for reading.
