A translation of the novel Saturnin by Jakub Małecki has been published in the Netherlands. The book was translated into Dutch by Karol Lesman and its publication was supported by the Book Institute as part of the ©POLAND Translation Programme.
The novel Saturnin, translated into Dutch, was published by the Querido publishing house. Earlier, in 2020, it had already published another Małecki’s novel, Rdza (“'Rust”), also translated by Karol Lesman.
Saturnin Mackiewicz - the main character in Małecki's novel - was supposed to be a professional weightlifter, but his career was interrupted by an injury. Today, he works as a sales representative in Warsaw. One day, his mother calls to inform him that his 96-year-old grandfather Tadeusz is missing. Saturnin returns to his hometown to find him and, in the process, unravel a family mystery.
One of Jakub Małecki's most widely read novels to date, it elaborates on the topics typical of the author. Once again, he writes about individuals caught up in the cogs of a great story and about traumas that stay in the family for generations. Above all, however, it is about people who are trying to understand the personal stories of their ancestors and, by extension, their own backstories.
