The Polish Book Institute

"Polish Libraries" is an English-language, peer-reviewed academic journal published yearly by the National Library of Poland, devoted to a broad scope of topics related to the resources of libraries, archives, and museums - their history, collecting, cataloguing, conservation, interpretation, reception, as well as sociological and legal aspects. The latest (vol. 9/2021) issue of the periodical is now available.

Last year was particularly successful for the journal; thanks to fulfilling the required high standards of the reviewing and editorial process, which guarantees the quality of publications, "Polish Libraries" has been admitted to two leading international databases of scientific journals: Scopus (in the process of indexing, included in the list of newly accepted journals) and ERIH PLUS. In the Ministry of Education and Science's current list of point-scoring periodicals, the journal has been awarded a value of 100 points.

The presented issue of "Polish Libraires" includes nine articles. It begins with a paper by Professor Zdzisław Pietrzyk of the Jagiellonian University, former long-time director of the Jagiellonian Library, on the history of the manuscript of “De revolutionibus orbium coelestium” by Nicolaus Copernicus. The article by Adam Szczepaniec from the Jagiellonian Library focuses on Adam von Gruttschreiber's little-known album amicorum and its use as a source of knowledge on the history of Silesia in the 16^th and 17^th centuries. Agata Pietrzak, head of the Department of Iconography at the National Library of Poland, presents a catalogue of drawings belonging to Stanisław Kostka Potocki and its significance for the history of collecting, whereas Professor Małgorzata Omilanowska-Kiljańczyk, director of the Institute of Art History at the University of Gdańsk, discusses the alterations of the seat of the Polish Library in Paris from the perspective of architectural history in her richly illustrated article.

Subsequently in the journal, Marlena Sęczek from the Institute of Literary Research of Polish Academy of Sciences presents the biography of Jakub Goldszmit, an emigrant to the USA, Janusz Korczak's uncle, and Monika Szabłowska-Zaremba, PhD, from the Institute for Literary Research of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin examines press photography as a source of narration on Jewish community in the interwar period. Prof. Mariola Antczak, Head of the Department of Information, Library and Book Science of the University of Łódź, discusses in her article the importance of the publication of the American psychologist Jean Twenge for research on the teenage reading culture, whereas Prof. Katarzyna Tałuć from the Institute of Literary Studies at the University of Silesia analyses the correspondence of the Patrology and Coptology scholar Fr. Wincenty Myszor with various institutions of culture and science preserved in the Archdiocesan Archives in Katowice. The issue closes with an article by Dr Tomasz Makowski, Director of the National Library of Poland, on the principles for developing the collections at the National Library.
