The Polish Book Institute

A series of events co-organised by the Book Institute will take place over the coming days in the United States. The choice of this year's laureate of the Found in Translation Award (FITA) will be discussed until the end of March. All translations into English that were published last year are taken into account.

On this occasion, today at Columbia University, Prof. Krzysztof Koehler, Deputy Director of the Book Institute, will give a lecture on the history of the award, and, together with translator Jennifer Croft, last year's FITA winner, will meet American readers at the main branch of the Brooklyn Public Library.

Moreover, Philadelphia and New York will inaugurate the "Polish Bookshelf" project, which was launched a year ago in Great Britain. The official inauguration will take place in Philadelphia on 7^th March at 16:00. The event will be attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the United States, Piotr Wilczek, as well as the Deputy Director of the Book Institute, Prof. Krzysztof Koehler. The day before, on 6^th March at 19.00, we will inaugurate the "Bookshelf" in Brooklyn.

Lecture by Krzysztof Koehler at Columbia University

At Columbia University (CU), Krzysztof Koehler will give a lecture on the history of the Found in Translation Award, present the latest winners, and present selected candidates in the current edition of the award. The lecture will be followed by a short discussion chaired by Christopher J. Caes from the Department of Slavic Languages at CU.

Meeting with Krzysztof Koehler and Jennifer Croft

Krzysztof Koehler together with translator Jennifer Croft, last year's laureate of the Found in Translation award for the translation of Olga Tokarczuk's Bieguni (“Flights”), will meet with American readers at the main branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. Krzysztof Koehler will present the activities of the Book Institute, talk about the Found in Translation award, its history, and this year's selected candidates. Jennifer Croft will talk about her work on the translation of Flights and her translation experiences. During the discussion chaired by Izabela Barry, the guests will also talk about the importance of translation and the role of translators in the promotion of Polish literature around the world.

Inauguration of the "Polish Bookshelf”

Official inauguration of the "Polish Bookshelf" in the main branch of the library in Philadelphia. Ambassador Piotr Wilczek will give a lecture on Polish literature, whereas Krzysztof Koheler will give a short speech on the activities of the Book Institute and the "Polish Bookshelf" project. The official part will be followed by a cocktail event with invited guests from the literary and publishing industry.
