“Library Infrastructure” at the International Conference “Architecture and Construction of Libraries” in Prague

On Friday, Jakub Pacześniak, who deals with library programmes at the Book Institute, presented the results of the programme "Library Infrastructure", which is a part of the National Reading Development Programme, to a group of over 200 Czech librarians.

Librarians met on the Vltava River on the occasion of the General Assembly of SKIP (Association of Library and Information Professionals of the Czech Republic) combined with the awarding of prizes to the best Czech librarians as well as the aforementioned conference, at which specialists from France, Germany, and Slovakia were also present. The series of meetings served to exchange ideas and experiences, mutual inspiration, presentation of achievements, and indications of the directions of the development of libraries.

As part of the activities around "Library Infrastructure", a study visit of Polish librarians to libraries in Austria and Germany took place at the beginning of June (attended by nearly 50 people from all over the country), organised by the Book Institute as a continuation of the Seminar Biblioteka Nowa ("The New Library"). In 2017, almost a hundred librarians from Poland visited libraries in the Czech Republic on the same terms.

It is worth mentioning that Czech librarians also came this year to visit libraries in Poland. They visited, among others, public libraries established within the framework of the "Infrastructure" in Czarny Bór in Lower Silesia, in Świecie in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship, and in Rumia in Pomerania (Stacja Kultura).

The itinerary also included the Library Grafit in Wrocław, the Raczynski Library in Poznań, Sopoteka (Library in Sopot), the Library of the University of Warsaw, the Public Library of the capital city of Warsaw and the Main Library of the Masovian Voivodeship "Koszykowa", as well as the Scientific Information Centre and the Academic Library in Katowice. The programme of the study visit for Czech librarians was devised by the Book Institute.

In September, during the second part of this year's edition of the Seminar "The New Library", in libraries in Stary Sącz (also established within the framework of "Library Infrastructure") and Rumia will be held workshops on architecture and interior design of libraries. We will inform you about the details in the summer months.
