“Król kier znów na wylocie” by Hanna Krall in Danish with support from the Book Institute

A translation of Hanna Krall's book Król kier znów na wylocie (“Chasing the King of Hearts”) has been published in Denmark. The publication of the book translated by Hanne Lone Tønnesen was supported by the Book Institute as part of the ©POLAND Translation Programme.

The book Hjerterkonge, as reads the title of the Danish translation, was published by OLGA publishing house in Aaarhus.

Chasing the King of Hearts is the unbelievable but true story of Izolda Regensberg. Izolda Regensberg's biggest luck was the fact that she was born without distinctive Semitic features: she could become Maria Pawlicka to try to save her husband, deported to the Mauthausen concentration camp. Izolda-Maria loses her entire family and goes via Vienna to Auschwitz, only to find herself in Berlin as a… “pure” German woman, yet after the war, her dramatic odyssey is far from over. Hanna Krall tells the story of the heroine in a characteristic way, without pathos, in concise, extremely evocative images-episodes.
