The online edition of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair has come to an end

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair has announced that from 4-7 May, during the virtual book fair, more than 500 publishers registered on the platform and sent about 20 000 titles. The Internet platform enabled almost 1500 exhibitors to present their titles, create and receive offers, as well as plan video meetings.

Despite the smaller number of exhibitors, the Bologna Children's Book Fair (BCBF) attracted twice as many visitors online as the traditional event held in northern Italy.

During the virtual fair, the platform was visited by 60 000 users, 75% of whom came from outside Italy (the traditional fair is visited by 30 000 people).

The initial data show that BCBF TV, which included “live programmes as well as studio productions and live broadcasts”, had 30 000 views. These consisted of webinars, ‘conferences’, conversations, interviews, and award ceremonies.

About 240 illustrators from 47 countries took part in the "Illustrators Marathon" project, and the online "illustration wall" presented the work of about 2500 illustrators from 80 countries.

32 awards were granted and more than 40 online events were held, including coverage of the Hans Christian Andersen Award ceremony.
