The Book Institute supported the Dutch translation of "Łopianowe pole" by Katarzyna Ryrych

A translation of the children's short story collection Łopianowe pole (“The Burdock Field”) by Katarzyna Ryrych into Dutch has been published. The publication of the book translated by Charlotte Pothuizen was supported by the Book Institute as part of the ©POLAND Translation Programme.

The book De kinderen van het Klissenveldje, as reads the Dutch title of the book, was published by the Clavis Uitgeverij publishing house.

The Burdock Field is a collection of short stories for children. Katarzyna Ryrych's texts tell of real-life problems that can overwhelm the youngest, yet they are always magically resolved. The world of the stories in The Burdock Field is permeated by magic: sometimes in the form of a mysterious gentleman walking a storm cloud on a string, and at other - by a personified swing. For The Burdock Field, Katarzyna Ryrych received the Book of the Year award of the Polish Section of the IBBY in 2017.

Katarzyna Ryrych made her debut in 1981 with the poetry volume Zapiski pewnej hipiski (“Notes of a Certain Hippie”), but later became known primarily as an author of books for younger readers. She has written, among others, novels in the Czarna walizka (“Black Suitcase”) series, as well as books for children or young adults such as Lato na Rodos (“Summer on ‘Rodos’), Hodowla (“Breeding”), Wyspa mojej siostry (“My Sister's Island”), Wilczek (“Little Wolf”), and Jasne dni, ciemne dni (“Bright Days, Dark Days”).
