Stranou Poetry Festival in the Czech Republic with the participation of Polish authors

Today marks the beginning of the new edition of the STRANOU - evropští básníci naživo festival in Beroun, Czech Republic.

The STRANOU Festival has been held annually since 2008. It brings together poets and often also musicians from European countries, especially from Central and Eastern Europe. Author meetings, discussions, and concerts take place over several days, and exhibitions of paintings or photographs are opened. This year, the venues for the artists' performances include the Vaclav Havel Library in Prague, the Jina kava café in Beroun, the Museum of Bohemian Karst and the Berouna Public Library, as well as the Church of St John of Nepomuk in Tetín and the Krakovec Castle.

From tomorrow to Saturday (6-10 June), poets from five countries will perform - from the Czech Republic: Jitka Bret Srbová, Petr Hejný, Petr Hruška, Edita Keglerová, Josef Kekula, Josef Pelán, and Daniela Vodáčková; from Slovenia: Cvetka Bevc, Vid Karlovšek, and Borut Peterlin; from Ukraine: Iryna Zahladko, who also writes in Czech; from the United Kingdom: Gale Burns; and from Poland: Przemyslaw Dakowicz and Jakub Pacześniak.

In previous years, amongst Polish poets, the festival hosted Zofia Bałdyga, Genowefa Jakubowska-Fijałkowska, Małgorzata Lebda, and Ryszard Krynicki.

The main organiser of the festival is the NGO Stranou. The programme is prepared by Lenka Daňhelová and Peter Kuhar.
