Olga Tokarczuk has been awarded the international literary prize 'Literary Flame'. The award will be presented on 2 September during the VII International Literature Festival "Ćirilicom" in Budva, Montenegro.
The president of the Literary Flame award jury is Mario Vargas Llosa. The name of the award comes precisely from the words that the Peruvian writer included in one of his essays. Llosa wrote, "Literature is like fire - through beauty, social commitment, a critical and creative attitude, it leads us to the idea of a better world and life, the idea of a better human being, a richer and happier society in which everyone is equal".
In previous years, the Literary Flame award was awarded to Orhan Pamuk, Adam Zagajewski, and Margaret Atwood, among others.
