Jaroslaw Mikolajewski with prestigious award for translation of "The Divine Comedy"
Jarosław Mikołajewski was awarded the first category gold medal by the Dante Alighieri Society.
"Dear friends, I am pleased to announce that the Societa' Dante Alighieri, by the decision of its president Prof Andrea Riccardi, has decided to award me its highest prize - the gold medal of the first category. For the popularisation of Italian language and culture, with a particular focus on the translation of The Divine Comedy," wrote the laureate on his Facebook page.
A new translation of The Divine Comedy was published last year by Wydawnictwo Literackie.
Previously, Mikolajewski received, among others, the Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński 'Orfeusz' Award, the Kazimiera Iłłłakowiczówna Award, as well as the Literary Award of the City of Warsaw. This year, also for his translation of Dante, Mikolajewski received the award of the 'KSIĄŻKI Literary Magazine'.
The gold medal ceremony took place on 6th December at the Staromiejski Dom Kultury in Warsaw. The laudation was delivered by Professor Piotr Salwa.
