Yesterday, the online edition of the Bologna Children's Book Fair was launched. Also, the winners of the Hans Christian Andersen Award, organised by IBBY under the patronage of the Queen of Denmark, were announced on 4th May.
The awards were given this year to Jacqueline Woodson - American author of novels for young adults, Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) winner two years ago (her novel Beneath a Meth Moon was published in Poland by Remi publishing house), and Albertine - Swiss illustrator, known in Poland thanks to the Wytwórnia publishing house ("My Little One") and the Babaryba publishing house ("At the Seaside"). Iwona Chmielewska was one of the finalists in the ‘illustrators’ category.
The Hans Christian Andersen Award was granted for the 64th time in the ‘literature’ category and the 54th time in the ‘graphics’ category. Over the years, it has been the only international award granted to children's artists (since 2002, there has also been the Astrid Lindgren Award). The award consists of a gold medal and a certificate presented at a solemn ceremony during the IBBY Congress (International Board on Books for Young People). On the occasion of granting the award, a special issue of the magazine "Bookbird" is published, which includes the names and biographies of the nominees, as well as a report on the jury proceedings.
The Virtual International Children's Book Fair in Bologna will last until May 7th.
