Found in Translation Award 2025: nominations open

The Polish Book Institute, the Polish Cultural Institute London and the Polish Cultural Institute New York are now accepting nominations for this year’s edition of the Found in Translation Award, honouring the best translation of Polish literature into English in 2024.

The Found in Translation Award includes a one-month residency in Kraków, an honorarium of 2,000 zlotys, travel to and from Kraków funded by the Polish Book Institute, and a cash prize of 16,000 zlotys funded in equal parts by the Polish Book Institute, the PCI London and the PCI New York.

Reminder:

Translations published in book form in 2024 qualify for nomination. Individuals or organizations in Poland and abroad may nominate candidates to the Book Institute (by writing to biuro@instytutksiazki.pl). The nomination should include a justification for choosing the candidate, the candidate’s address, and the address of the nominator. An electronic version of the book translated by the candidate may also be submitted. 

Please send the nominations by 31st January 2025.

  • Antonia Lloyd-Jones, for the translation of The Last Supper by Paweł Huelle (2009)
  • Danuta Borchardt, for the translation of Pornografia  by Witold Gombrowicz (2010)
  • Clare Cavanagh i Stanisław Barańczak, for the translation of Here, a volume of poetry by Wisława Szymborska (2011)
  • Joanna Trzeciak, for the translation of poems by Tadeusz Różewicz (2012)
  • Antonia Lloyd-Jones, for the entire work done by the translator in the year preceding the presentation of the award (2013)
  • Philip Boehm, for the translation of the book  Chasing the King of Hearts  by Hanna Krall (2014)
  • Ursula Phillips, for the translation of the novel  Choucas  by Zofia Nałkowska (2015)
  • Bill Johnston, for the translation of  Twelve Stations  by Tomasz Różycki (2016)
  • Piotr Florczyk, for the translation of Building the Barricade  by Anna Świrszczyńska (2017)
  • Jennifer Croft, for the translation of  Flights  by Olga Tokarczuk (2018)
  • Madeleine Levine, for the translation of Collected Stories by Bruno Schulz (2019)
  • Anna Zaranko, for her translation of The Memoir of an Anti-hero by Kornel Filipowicz (2020)
  • Ewa Małachowska-Pasek and Megan Thomas, for their translation of The Carrer of Nicodemus Dyzma by Tadeusz Dołęga-Mostowicz (2021)
  • Jennifer Croft for her transaltion of The Books of Jacob by Olga Tokarczuk (2022)
  • Anna Zaranko for her transaltion of The Pesants by Władysław Reymont (2023)
  • Alissa Valles for her translation of Firebird by Zuzanna Ginczanka (2024)
