This year, as many as three Polish books received the Bologna Ragazzi Award: in the non-fiction category - Agata Loth-Ignaciuk and Bartłomiej Ignaciuk's Marek Kamiński. Jak zdobyć bieguny Ziemi. W rok (“Marek Kamiński. How to Conquer the Poles of the Earth. In a Year", Druganoga Publishing House), in the Opera prima category - Pion i poziom (“Vertical and horizontal", Dwie Siostry Publishing House) by Bartosz Sztybor with illustrations by Łukasz Golędzinowski, while the Comics-middle grade award went to Którędy do Yellowstone? Dzika podróż po parkach narodowych (”Which Way to Yellowstone? A Wild Journey Through the National Parks", Dwie Siostry Publishing House) by Aleksandra and Daniel Mizielinski.
This is a great success for the authors and the whole sector of Polish children's books for the Bologna Ragazzi Award is the most prestigious international award for children's and youth books, comparable to the Oscars. It is awarded to publishers by the international Bologna Children's Book Fair for the most interesting book for children and young people in terms of their graphic and editorial qualities.
Every year, the award is presented in four main categories (Fiction, Non Fiction, Opera Prima – for yet unpublished authors and illustrators, and Comics) as well as special categories. This year's special category was Poetry.
According to the organisers, a total of 1,577 titles were submitted for the competition, from 41 countries worldwide.
