Applications for the School of New Translators now open

Are you an enthusiast of Polish books? Do you know Polish very well and your mother tongue is Arabic? Are you thinking about a career as a literary translator? Take part in the School of New Translators! The Book Institute invites you to a series of free translation workshops designed for beginner translators of Polish literature into Arabic.

Qualification for the first stage of the project will take the form of a language skills test and translation aptitude test. The applicants will be asked to translate an extract from a book chosen by the organiser.

During the first stage of the project, participants will take part in online workshops led by a prominent translator of Polish literature. Four exceptionally talented participants will be admitted to the second stage and will be invited for 10 days to Krakow in November 2021, where they will continue to work on their translation technique and learn more about Polish culture.

Anyone wishing to apply for the project is asked to send an application by email to: l.gawkowska@instytutksiazki.pl. Applications will be accepted until 5 September 2021.

Please include the following information in your application: name, surname, date of birth, country of origin, city and country of permanent residence, education, level of knowledge of the Polish language, previous translation experience, a brief justification of your desire to take part in the workshop (max. 200 words), GDPR consent.

The School of New Translators is a translation workshop for beginner translators of Polish literature into foreign languages. The original format of the project was developed together with the Polish Institutes in Tel Aviv and St. Petersburg in 2019-2020.
