Adam Zagajewski’s “Asymmetry” in the final of the National Book Critics Circle Awards 2018
Adam Zagajewski's Asymetria (“Asymmetry”), translated by Clare Cavanagh, was one of the finalists of the National Book Critics Circle Awards 2018 in the field of poetry.
There were also four other titles in the final:
- Terrance Hayes, American Sonnets for My Past and Future Assassin (Penguin Books)
- Ada Limón, The Carrying (Milkweed)
- Erika Meitner, Holy Moly Carry Me (Boa)
- Diane Seuss, Still Life with Two Dead Peacocks and a Girl (Graywolf Press)
Clare Cavanagh is one of the most eminent translators of Polish poetry in the world. She translated, inter alia, Czesław Miłosz, Wisława Szymborska, Stanisław Barańczak, Adam Zagajewski, and Ryszard Krynicki. She is also a recognised literary critic and was previously awarded the National Book Critics Circle Award for the collection of texts Lyric Poetry and Modern Politics: Russia, Poland, and the West.
In 2011, together with Stanisław Barańczak, for their translation of Wisława Szymborska’s volume Tutaj (“Here”), she received the Found in Translation Award granted by the Polish Book Institute, the Polish Cultural Institute in London, and the Polish Cultural Institute in New York.
