30 translations of Andrzej Sapkowski’s works supported by the Book Institute

Today, Andrzej Sapkowski celebrates his 75th birthday. On this occasion, we would like to wish him good health, and to ourselves and our readers - that he continues to delight everyone with new works.

The Book Institute has supported the translations of Andrzej Sapkowski's books from the very beginning of the ©Poland Translation Programme, co-financing the publication of 30 of his books.

With the support of the Book Institute, the following titles have been published to date:

  • Miecz przeznaczenia (“Sword of Destiny”) in Spanish (2003, translated by Jose Maria Faraldo), French (2009, translated by Alexandre Dayet), Finnish (2011, translated by Tapani Kärkkäinen), Greek (2017, translated by Dimitrios Chouliarakis), Danish (2017, translated by Rune Brandt Hansen), and Slovenian (2023, translated by Klemen Pisk)
  • Krew elfów (“Blood of Elves”) in Lithuanian (2006, translated by Vidas Morkunas), German (2008, translated by Erik Simon), French (2008, translated by Lidia Waleryszak), Serbian (2012, translated by Borislav Pantić), and Danish (2019, translated by Rune Brandt Larsen);
  • Czas pogardy (“Time of Contempt”) in Lithuanian (2006, translated by Vidas Morkunas), German (2009, translated by Erik Simon), Serbian (2012, translated by Milica Markić), Korean (2018, translated by Jiwone Lee), and Portuguese (2018, translated by Tomasz Barcinski);
  • Chrzest ognia (“Baptism of Fire”) in Lithuanian (2006, translated by Vidas Morkunas) and Korean (2019, translated by Jiwone Lee);
  • Ostatnie życzenie (“The Last Wish”) in English (2008, translated by Danuta Stok), Swedish (2010, translated by Tomas Håkanson), Finnish (2010, translated by Tapani Kärkkäinen), Portuguese (2011, translated by Tomasz Barcinski), Greek (2013, translated by Dimitrios Chouliarakis), Romanian (2015, translated by Mihaela Fiscutean), and Hebrew (2021, translated by Ilaj Halpern);
  • Wieża jaskółki  (“The Tower of the Swallow”) and Pani jeziora (“The Lady of the Lake”) in Portuguese (2017, translated by Olga Baginska-Shinzato)
  • Lux Perpetua (“Light Perpetual”), Boży Bojownicy (“Warriors of God”), and Narrenturm (“The Tower of Fools”) in German (2007, translated by Barbara Samborska)

The Slovenian and Belarusian editions of Time of Contempt, the Hebrew edition of Sword of Destiny, and the Arabic edition of The Last Wish are also planned for the nearest future.
