“Twoje ciałopozytywne dojrzewanie” in Spanish with the support of the Book Institute

A translation of two children's books Twoje ciałopozytywne dojrzewanie (“A Body-Positive Guide to Puberty”) - a version for girls and a version for boys - has been published in Spain by Barbara Pietruszczak with illustrations by Anna Rudak. The translation by Joanna Ostrowska was supported by the Book Institute as part of the ©POLAND Translation Programme.

In Spanish, the titles of the books read: Pubertad positiva para chicas and Pubertad positiva para chicos. They were published by the Spanish publishing house Editorial el Pirata.

A Body-Positive Guide to Puberty is a series of guidebooks written for younger teenagers whose bodies are starting to change and whose hormones are running wild. The authors have set themselves the task of providing pubescent young people with a sound and accessible knowledge of the changes that are happening within them. The books also aim to help teenagers talk about their bodies and emotions without shame and in an open way.

Barbara Pietruszczak is a journalist and author who specialises precisely in writing about the body and puberty. She is involved with the magazine 'Kosmos dla dziewczynek’, among others. Anna Rudak works at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk and is an illustrator who has worked with many brands, including Medicine, H&M, and Converse. She also illustrated Anna Garbal's Atlas miast Polski (”Atlas of Polish Cities”).

The ©Poland Translation Programme is one of the Book Institute's flagship programmes. Its aim is to promote Polish literature around the world by providing financial support for the publication of Polish books in translation into foreign languages. Foreign publishers may use the funding grant to finance part of the work's publication costs, including, among other things, the translation of the work from Polish into another language, the purchase of copyright licences, and the printing of the book. In 2023 alone, we have subsidised 229 foreign editions of Polish books to be published by publishing houses from 46 countries, to which we have allocated almost PLN 5 million. In all editions of the programme, we have already subsidised a total of more than 3,000 translations of Polish books into foreign languages.
