Zofia Bałdyga nominated for Magnesia Litera

The nominations for the most prestigious Czech literary award Magnesia Litera have been announced. Poet and translator Zofia Bałdyga made it onto the long list of nominees.

Bałdyga was among the six authors nominated in the Poetry category. The respected translator - for her anthology Sąsiadki. 10 poetek czeskich (“Neighbours. 10 Czech Female Poets”), she received the 2020 Literatura na Świecie Award in the ‘New Face’ category - and the poet recently made her Czech-language debut with the collection 'Poslední cestopisy' (published by Fra).

Previously, Zofia Bałdyga had published four volumes of poetry written in Polish.

Her works have so far been translated into Czech, Ukrainian, Swedish, and English, among other languages.

To date, the Magnesia Litera has twice gone to translators of Polish literature - in 2022 to Michala Benešová and Michael Alexa for their translation of Lód (“Ice”) by Jacek Dukaj, and six years earlier to Iveta Mikešová for her translation of Piaskowa góra (“Sandy Mountain”) by Joanna Bator.
