Prestigious award for Olga Tokarczuk and her translator into French

The laureate of this year’s award The Prix Laure-Bataillon for the best foreign-language book translated into French in the last year was Maryla Laurent for the translation of Olga Tokarczuk's Księgi Jakubowe (“The Books of Jacob”).

The prize is awarded jointly to the author of a book and its translator, and it is considered the most important award for translation in France.

In 2016, the Laure-Bataillon Classic Prize was awarded to Alain Van Crugten for his new translation of Schulz's short stories.

This is not the only award for the The Books of Jacob in France. Last year, the French cultural magazine “Transfuge” recognised Olga Tokarczuk's book as “The Best European Novel”.
