Mickiewicz’s sonnets in English with the support of the Book Institute

A translation of Adam Mickiewicz's sonnets was published in Great Britain. The sonnets were translated by Charles S. Kraszewski. The bilingual edition was supported by the Book Institute as part of the ©POLAND Translation Programme.

The collection The Sonnets. Including The Erotic Sonnets, The Crimean Sonnets, and Uncollected Sonnets, which is the title of the English edition, has recently been published by the Dutch-British publishing house Glagoslav Publications.

The volume translated by Kraszewski includes Sonety krymskie (“Crimean Sonnets”), Sonety odeskie (“Odessa Sonnets”), also called love or erotic sonnets, and uncollected sonnets. This is the most extensive collection of Adam Mickiewicz's sonnets published in English.

As part of the ©POLAND Translation Programme, the Book Institute has also supported other translations by Charles S. Kraszewski: Dziady (“Forefathers' Eve”) by Mickiewicz (Glagoslav Publications, 2016; full four-part edition of the drama), a selection of plays by Juliusz Słowacki (Four Plays, Glagoslav Publications, 2017), and Stanisław Wyspiański's Akropolis (Glagoslav Publications, 2016).
