“Akademia Pana Kleksa” in Swedish with the support of the Book Institute

In Spain, a translation of Akademia Pana Kleksa (“Mister Blot’s Academy”) by Jan Brzechwa has been published. The book was translated by Tomas Håkanson. The publication of the book was supported by the Book Institute as part of the ©POLAND Translation Programme.

The book Herr Klex akademi, as reads the title of the Swedish translation, has been recently published by Atrium Förlag publishing house in Umeå.

Mister Blot’s Academy is one of the most popular novels in the history of Polish literature for children and teenagers. The work of Jan Brzechwa was first published in 1946. This is the story of a twelve-year-old, unruly, redheaded Adas Niezgódka, who is placed in the titular academy together with twenty-three other boys - all with names beginning with the letter A. They are cared for by Mr Blot with the help of Matt, a scholarly starling who pronounces only the endings of words.

Tomas Håkanson, the translator of the novel, has also translated works by, inter alia, Tadeusz Różewicz (Recycling), Andrzej Stasiuk (Taksim, Jadąc do Babadag [“On the Road to Babadag”]), and Andrzej Sapkowski (Ostatnie życzenie (“The Last Wish”), whose publication was supported by the Book Institute as part of the ©POLAND Translation Programme.
