Marek escaped communist Poland as a child and settled in the UK. He is the founder editor of OFF_PRESS, an independent publishing house, and managing editor of Not Shut Up magazine. His work involves partnerships with organizations such as the British Council, English PEN, Southbank Centre, the Polish Cultural Institute, The Guardian, Maintenant, 3AM Magazine and many others. He works closely with University College London on the eMigrating Landscapes academic project, as well as with many other universities and organisations in the UK and abroad. He is a qualified lecturer in linguistics and comparative literature, as well as an experienced tutor of English language and translations. He has translated numerous books of contemporary Polish poetry and prose, and was joint winner of the 2007 Penguin Decibel Prize. His collection of short stories "Damn the Source" was published in 2013, while his short films have been shown at various UK and international festivals. He is co-organiser of the Literary Piers project, part of the Essex Book Festival in the UK. Recipient of the Villa Decius literary residency in 2013, Marek's translation of Wioletta Grzegorzewska's most recent collection of poetry and prose has been selected for the European Literature Night gala at the British Library in 2015.
